A Korean singer, BoA (17), attended the 'MTV Asia Awards 2004' in Singapore on February 14 for the first time. She received the 'Most Influential Asian Artist' and the 'Favorite Artist Korea'. Then as a representative of both Korea and Japan, she performed her song in both Korean and Japanese.
A bit north to the equator, a small country, Singapore. BoA's loud voice, laughter, and the strong dnace filled the stage higher than 30C. This live program was sponsored by the MTV Asia in Singapore Indoor Stadium. It was a place where all the top artists in Asia gathered.
BoA, who people usually saw in brown colored hair, changed her style to braided, black hair, to an Asian taste. She sang her latest song 'Rock With You' in Korean and Japanese and this was the first time for any singer to perform in two different languages. It was BoA's special stage skill that made her able to do it.
After the performance, BoA received a special award, 'Most Influential Asian Artist'. She also received the 'Favorite Artist Korea', voted by the citizens in Korea. For the speech she made regarding the award, she spoke in Chinese, English, Korean, and Japanese.
When asked her feelings on being at the same program with other pop singers such as Stacie Orrico, Blue, and others, BoA said with a big smile, "I was really happy. This performance will be really memorable for me."
BoA also said, "I'm very honored to be invited to such a big festival. If I have a chance, I will perform in China some time and perhaps in Europe or America." BoA's movitations and self-challenges never faded way.

Pop music diva Mariah Carey got hearts raising when she made a surprise guest appearance to accept a special Lifetime Achievement Award at the MTV Asia Awards 2004. From the Far East, Korean pop diva, BoA was honored for being the 'Most Influential Asian Artist'. She also was declared Favourite Artist Korea by fans and viewers who voted her to victory. Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore divas, Sammi Cheng, Siti Nurhaliza and Stefanie Sun, emerged triumphant for the third straight year in the Favourite Artist category. Linkin Park clinched two awards for the Favourite Rock Act and Favourite Video categories while Blue won Favourite Pop Act for the second year running.
The 2004 MTV Asia Awards hosts Michelle Branch and Vanness Wu preceded over the show with their enthusiasm, charm and wit, lifting the 7,000 strong audience into a magical mood for love that flowed throughout the evening. The pan-regional awards show - the largest in Asia - presented a total of 16 awards to artists and personalities voted by viewers across the region. The glittering list of stars performing and presenting included 5566, Black Eyed Peas, Blue, Derek McDonald, Gareth Gates, Liberty X, Simple Plan, Sugababes, Stacie Orrico; Isha Kopikar (India); Iwan Fals, Mocca, Audy and Javier (Indonesia); BoA (Korea); Too Phat, Siti Sarah, Misha Omar and Siti Nurhaliza (Malaysia); Rivermaya (Philippines); Stefanie Sun and Tanya Chua (Singapore); A*Mei and Machi (Taiwan); Armchair, Blackhead, "Bird" Thongchai McIntyre, Boyd Kosiyabong, Parn-Thanaporn, Tata Young, Katreeya English, Jintara Poonlarb and Nut Myria (Thailand).
In honor of the late Hong Kong superstar Anita Mui, MTV pays tribute to her immense contributions to the music industry by presenting her with the Inspiration Award. Despite passing on late last year, she continues to live forever in the hearts of her fans. She was famous on stage for her outrageous costumes and vocal prowess that were characteristic of her high-powered gigs in Hong Kong and overseas. On the silver and small screens, she was also an undisputed champion, gifted with the ability to bring laughter and tears to those who watched. Revered for her tireless spirit, Anita not only won the hearts of her fans, she also won the respect of her peers in the industry. For a special moment in the evening, Anita's close friend, world famous actress Michelle Yeoh, gave a touching tribute and collected the trophy on her behalf, bringing the house to a respected hush in honor of this brilliant artist.
Michelle Yeoh herself was presented The Asian Film Award for her enormous contribution to the film industry. Having starred in countless films, the former Bond girl blazed into the international movie arena partnering with Pierce Brosnan in Tomorrow Never Dies. The poised and elegant actress is well known for her action films, showcasing her agility and courage in executing tricky stunts on set. A true heroine in the hearts of many, Michelle's achievements extend behind cameras to film production as well. All winners walked away with a trophy in the form of a cupid, adding a cheeky twist to MTV's interpretation of love - the theme of the event. The trophy also has an in-built sound system that plays a romantic tune.
The show opened with a stunning burlesque dance performance by Pussy Cat Dolls who dazzled the audience with their colourful costumes and antics on stage. Pop diva, BoA, put together an outstanding performance with her rendition of "Rock With You", charging the atmosphere to euphoric heights. Simple Plan also wowed the audience with their energetic performance of medley "Perfect" and "Addicted" while Sugababes enthralled the crowd with "Too Lost In You". "Bird" Thongchai McIntyre accompanied by three beautiful Thai singers, Katreeya English, Jintara Poonlarb and Nut Myria, unleashed his musical talent on stage, mesmerizing the audience with their superb dance choreography and catchy tune. Adding more colour to the stage was a dynamic performance by Isha Kopikar with a team of Indian dancers.
Underscoring the theme of Love were special duet performances by several artists including Gareth Gates and Siti Nurhaliza crooning to "Say It Isn't So". The combination of the two talented artists from the East and the West brought about a new sound that spurred the audience into singing along midway. Another spectacular duet was by Taiwanese superstars, A*Mei and Machi who performed a remixed version of "Hypocrisy" in an all-out hip-hop style that moved the hearts, bodies and feet of the crowd. Fans were also treated to a stunning collaboration by Stacie Orrico, Malaysia's Too Phat and Singapore's Urban Xchange who each showcased their vocal talent, singing a medley of remixed hits "More To Life" and "Stuck" that bore the Asian undertones of the tablas drums.
The show was brought to an all time high with a finale performance by multi-ethnic rap crew, Black Eyed Peas. Dazzling the spectators with a medley of their energetic hip-hop hits "Shut Up" and "Where Is The Love?", they were met with thunderous applause and ear-piercing wolf whistles as they brought the night to a close. Showers of confetti and balloons were dropped from the ceiling, sealing the celebratory mood and bringing the successful show to an end.
