‘K-Pop Star’ finalist Park Jae Hyung reveals his admiration for BoA and J.Y. Park
Park Jae Hyung, who is currently appearing on SBS‘s ‘K-Pop Star‘, recently sat down for an interview with SBS. He began by explaining how he grew in love with k-pop saying, “When k-pop gradually became popular in the States, I started listening to k-pop with my noona who was 10 years older than me.”
“The reason why I first loved k-pop was because of the group, G.O.D. I visited Korea when I was little and planned on attending one of their concerts, but I wasn’t allowed to go because I was too young, so my uncle only took my noona. I ended up crying all day that day.” He continued, “A few years later, I fell in love with SHINee‘s music and that’s when I uploaded my first Youtube cover video of ‘Replay‘.”
Park Jae Hyung previously participated in one of SM Town‘s concert events with his cover of SHINee’s “Replay” and achieved 2nd place. He also performed a different rendition of the song, this time with fellow contestant Yoon Hyun Sang on ‘K-Pop Star’.
The interviewer asked, “We heard you attended one of the Korean Music Festivals in LA and was enamored after seeing BoA‘s and J.Y. Park‘s performance. How did you feel at that time?” to which Park Jae Hyung replied, “Their songs were very sophisticated. When I saw BoA noona, she was very pretty and I thought to myself how someone could dance and sing live at the same time so well. I was very impressed.”
He then expressed his admiration for the two saying, “The fact that I was able to personally meet these two sunbaes through this audition program still amazes me. I brought the pictures I took with them during the LA concert with me to Korea and I hope to get them autographed by them.”
Meanwhile, Park Jae Hyung has safely made it through the top 8 and will be performing for the March 25th live broadcast of SBS’s ‘K-Pop Star’.

BoA purchases ‘K-Pop Star’ contestant Yoon Hyun Sang’s single]
BoA, who is currently a judge on SBS’s ‘K-pop Star,’ recently showed her affection for Yoon Hyun Sang, who was eliminated last week.
On March 28th, BoA wrote on her personal Twitter, “Hyun Sang’s ‘Breaking Up is Something You Should Not Do‘ is such a good song. Listening to the song late into the night makes me sentimental. I am looking forward to what Hyun Sang will do in the future as a singer songwriter. I hope he stands in front of the audience with even better songs… Hyun Sang, I bought your single!”
On the January 1st broadcast of ‘K-pop Star,’ Yoon Hyun Sang performed a song he wrote himself, ‘Breaking Up is Something You Should Not Do’ and received a positive response for his ability to create such a song.
Fan’s who saw BoA’s tweet wrote, “Even though he was eliminated, they still have a great teacher-pupil relationship“, “His single came out, congratulations“, and “Hyun Sang, become a great singer!”
During the last broadcast on the 26th, Yoon Hyun Sang put on his rendition of Lee So Ra’s ‘The Wind Blows‘, but unfortunately was eliminated in the end.
K-pop Star’s Top 6 finalists share their thoughts on Park Ji Min’s latest performance
The Top 6 finalists of SBS‘s ‘K-Pop Star‘ recently gathered for an interview with SBS and expressed their envy towards Park Ji Min. The 16 year-old singer blew the judges away last week, earning a total of 299 points from all three judges. In case you missed it, SBS recently uploaded all the performance cuts.
Lee Michelle, the oldest out of the Top 6, is known for being close friends with Park Ji Min. Having been together during Supearls, the two grew a special bond throughout their participation on ‘K-Pop Star’. She revealed her thoughts on Park Ji Min’s latest performance saying, “She deserved that high score. I was happy for her and at that moment, I thought to myself, ‘Ji Min really is amazing’. However, as her unnie, I’m worried for her next performance. She’s so young, but receiving such a high score from the judges, her next performance will definitely be a heavy burden on her shoulders. In order to do better than last week, she’ll need to receive a perfect 300 points from the judges.”
Park Jae Hyung commented, “She’s usually just a cute 16 year-old girl with a great personality, but on stage, the way she concentrates on her performance is amazing.” He continued, “Truthfully speaking, I’m very envious of Ji Min’s vocal cords. When Ji Min was suffering from strain on them, she playfully joked saying that she wanted to throw her vocal cords away and that she was willing to trade vocal cords with me. As someone with weak vocal cords, I was merely jealous.”
Meanwhile, Baek Ah Yeon relayed a time how she was once confident in surpassing Park Ji Min stating, “When I sang the song ‘Do You Know‘, I was slightly convinced that I could do better than Ji Min but now, she’s like a mountain that I’ll never be able to cross.”
Rapper and “artist”, Lee Seung Hoon also praised Ji Min by comparing the atmosphere when she received the 299 points to when Korean soccer player, Hong Myung Bo, scored the winning goal against Spain in the 2002 World Cup. “The place was filled with cheers and applause. It was as if the audience had no choice, but to give a standing ovation.”
After hearing the praises from her fellow Top 6 finalists, Park Ji Min revealed her goals for her next live performance. “Rather than receiving a high score, I hope to put on a more spectacular performance. Even if I receive a lower score than last week, my only hope is to be acknowledged by Yang Hyun Suk since I have been casted by YG.”
On the March 25th live broadcast of ‘K-Pop Star’, the Top 6 surviving finalists were divided into three groups, each being sent to one of the three entertainment agencies (SM, YG, or JYP). Viewers are showing an enormous amount of anticipation to tomorrow’s performance as each finalist received special training under some of the top producers over the past week.
‘K-Pop Star’ reveals Top 5 finalists with special cameo by Teddy Park
SBS‘s ‘K-Pop Star‘ aired its fifth live broadcast on April 1st, which consisted of performances by the Top 6. Last week, the Top 6 were evenly divided and cast to one of the top three agencies (YG, SM, and JYP) to receive training from well-known producers. Unfortunately, the contestant to be eliminated this week was the guitarist who visited from America, Park Jae Hyung.
Park Jae Hyung was praised by J.Y. Park for his performance last week and has once again put up another impressive performance of Frankie Valli‘s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You“. Viewers were impressed by his spectacular stage performance, yet Park Jae Hyung was unable to impress the three judges as they stated that his tone was “unstable”.
When faced with an elimination, Park Jae Hyung commented, “Through this competition, I was able to realize how great it is to be able to do the things you want in life. I would like to sincerely thank all of my fans, parents, and the judges.”
Meanwhile, the Top 5 finalists were once again cast by the judges to be trained under the top three agencies. JYP selected Lee Ha Yi and Lee Michelle, YG again selected Lee Seung Hoon and Park Ji Min, and SM cast Baek Ah Yeon.
In addition to this week’s live broadcast, YG Entertainment‘s very own producer and 1TYM leader, Teddy Park, made a brief television appearance. Upon his arrival, fans were ecstatic to see him make a television appearance again after such a long time.
The reason for Teddy’s sudden appearance on the audition program was because he had trained contestants Lee Seung Hoon and Park Ji Min over the past week. Whether it was because of Teddy’s coaching or not, the two received the highest scores on the April 1st broadcast of ‘K-Pop Star’, to many viewer’s surprise.
At the end of Park Ji Min’s performance of The Jackson 5‘s “I’ll Be There“, Yang Hyun Suk commented, “Teddy is the type of person that becomes ‘rough’ when recording. It even took 2NE1 six hours to record, but it only took Park Ji Min two or three times to get it correct.”
