I'm so in love with this song >_< It's so beautiful I cant translate even 10% of its beauty. T-T

now hang on to this world
すごく速いから
涙も 笑顔も 忘れないように

季節が移ろう度に
世界が感覚を追い越したとしても
揺るぎのない 胸のMilestone
その度 わたしが刻むから…

Translation

I don't even understand myself.
"I want you to understand everything about me"
I know I cannot simply say that
If I can form my white breaths into shapes,
can my feeling reach you?

When seasons change
The world surpasses our senses
Even that very thought
Also disappears in the blink of an eye

It's all good if things go by unnoticed
But if you stop for a bit, you'll see the hint that winter is coming

When seasons change
The world surpasses our senses
So that that very thought would not disappear
I'll engrave it on my body and my heart

now hang on to this world
which spins so fast
so that the tears and smiles won't be lost.

When seasons change
Eventhough the world (is so fast it) surpasses our senses
I'll make sure to engrave (my dear memories) onto
The unmoving Milestone in my heart

[note] I insert the words in brackets myself to make the lyrics a bit easier to understand. The last 2 lines in the translation are out of order to make the English flows (as u can see that "Milestone" in the original Japanese lyrics is in the 2nd to last line)

[note2] STY (a Japanese composer who also composed I SEE ME) wrote in his blog here http://styjp.postero...onto-this-world about this idea of the song. He said he was thrilled when given the task to write a song about "BoA's career and life" and that the song was inspired by Donny Hathaway's Someday We'll All Be Free which begins with a line "Hang onto the world as it spins, around." STY himself has always thought time goes by so fast. Even the thought that "time goes by so fast" would swiftly turn to be in the past. This idea is written directly into the lyrics of Milestone.

And I am so thankful that STY adapted that precious idea in 'Milestone'

"now hang on to this world
because it spins so fast
Try not to forget your tears and smiles
When seasons change
Eventhough the world (is so fast it) surpasses our senses
I'll make sure to engrave (my dear memories) onto

^ My favorite phrase . Since Meri Kuri, this is the song makes me feel so nostalgic, the music & the lyrics make me miss my family, make me miss all of the good time & bad time in my life. It's just... undescribably touching. That's the thing I always love about BoA, she has tears in her voice...

BTW, there is already a topic of 'Milestone' lyrics, probably you should get the staff to merge the other into here or so :)

Yeah I was a little hesitant at first to create a new thread. But I'm afraid people wont see my post if I just post it as a reply in the 2nd page. :P Totally all for merging or whatever. :D

Are you sure that "Namida mo egao mo wasurenai you ni" means "Try not to forget your tears and smiles"?
Since "Try not to forget your tears and smiles" is actually "Namida mo egao mo wasurete minai de (kudasai)"
I think "Namida mo egao mo wasurenai you ni" means "I wish not to forget neither tear(s) nor smile(s)".
My Japanese is still bad :(
There are also some other mistakes by the way...

hmm...I think your translation is valid. The thing is "no subject is indicated" in the original Japanese text. and since the verse starts with "Now hang onto this world" I interpret it as BoA speaking to the 2nd person but it can very well mean everyone, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd persons.

However, "Namida mo egao mo wasurete minai de (kudasai)" would mean "Don't try forgetting tears and smiles." which is weird.

Sorry if my English is hard to understand. It's not my native language (and neither is Japanese so my translation is bound to have mistakes here and there. sorry >_< )

edit : OK I have a change of heart. I'll change my translation above. It was indeed wrong. Thanks for pointing it out. :)

There are also some other mistakes by the way...

Can you point them out also? It's pretty important that we can get the best translation :)

-----------
Oh BTW, we also have a translation from buouchan's Eng-sub video, translator is Azarashi, I'm not sure from which forum, maybe from her sub team.

I don't even know about myself
But it seems like I want to know all about you
Although I can't say it out, I still have known it clearly
Perhaps it would be your sigh
that I knew it?

Every time the season changes,
The world gets ahead of the feeling
Those sparkling memories may disappear in one second
If I still live on without noticing anything,
that would be better
When I stop and stand there,
the fuzz of winter suddenly came.

Every time the season changes
The world gets a head of the feeling
Those feelings will never disappear
and it keeps engraving in my heart

Now hang on to this world,
because time flies too fast.
I wish I won't ever forget your tears & smiles

Every time the season changes
The world gets ahead of the feeling
My 'Milestone' will never be shaken
Because I keep a record every time...

I was blown away upon first hearing the song. It's perfect - exactly the type of song I've always loved hearing from BoA. This is an absolute gem and can't wait to get the whole single once it's out.

OH, when rush through your translation, I found some mistake here:
1st: "自分のことでさえ 分からないのに
あなただけに全て 分かって欲しいなんて" -> I don't even understand myself.
"I want you to understand everything about me"

" あなた" (anata) means "you", so this sentence has to be " I want you to understand everything about you"
and "涙も 笑顔も 忘れないように" that means "I wish not to forget neither tear(s) nor smile(s)" ( I agree with Ayulove90  ), i have learnt this structure of "wish" in Japanese, "you ni" means when you wish to do something or it can be used in comparative sentence

when I 1st got the kanji lyrics, i sent them immediatly to my sister - who is a Japanese translator at Japanese company, she translated to me in Vietnamese and then I translated into English. so I think my translation can be said correct

Thanks for your comments. I still think my translation here at these 2 points are correct though. (I also translate professionally but obviously, not to English. ;P )

あなただけに全て 分かって欲しい means "Want only you to understand everything" and since the above line talk about 自分のこと (I, me) so it makes sense that the 2nd line talks about "Want only you to understand everything about me" or "Want only you to understand my everything" or if you're not comfortable with it, just go with "Want only you to understand everything." ^^

...ように also means "in order to", for example
日本語を忘れないように毎日ドラマを見ています。means I watch j-drama everyday so that I won't forget Japanese.

in the song, what it wanna convey is
"The world spins so fast, so we have to hold on tight to it, or else many things(smiles, tears, etc) will get thrown out of the world. Also, make sure to engrave those things onto the Milestone in your heart."

I'm grateful for all the comments here. :)
I'm the type that gives big importance to correct translation (especially if it's BoA song) ^^
