Hi guys,

I know some of you have been to Japan and I would like to ask what would a Japanese woman want for a gift? My friend is going back to Japan for good. It saddens me that I'll probably never see her for a long time but I want to give her something meaningful yet not expensive. If it helps, she's pregnant with her first baby. Thank you for any suggestions.

uuh... I think any baby-related present would be a little awkward.

Something with a picture, or with your names written on it would be cute. Maybe, a personalized  cell phone case...

Sorry. I'm really out of ideas.

I've lived in Japan for a year. What most Japanese people do for farewell gifts is giving a card or a photo album with a picture collage that contain the memories that they spent together.

I've gotten a lot of those gifts and they are some of the most precious treasures that I've received in my life.

Or if not, then a cute accessory would be a nice gift and a reminder of your friendship with your Japanese friend.

It's really the thought that counts, not the type of gift! :)
