Finally getting an answer from the researchers who had a suspision that our tiny, cold, dark "planet" Pluto wasn't a planet at all, they answer with a 'Yes'. Along with this, the researchers also gave a new definition/rules for planets: "a celestial body that is in orbit around the sun, has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a ... nearly round shape, and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit." is the correct phrase for it now.

Our solar system is now down to:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto
Sorry to all those solar system nerds (like me xD) that had favored Pluto because of how cute and small it was, come back to planet earth and discover a new favor planet (Mine is Mars ^_~!)

I was never really good with planets!

Sounds interesting though but I didn't understand a word of that statement of why Pluto isn't a planet anymore!!!

Sorry to all those solar system nerds (like me xD) that had favored Pluto because of how cute and small it was, come back to planet earth and discover a new favor planet (Mine is Mars ^_~!)

I thought that news story was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard. I've been interested in astronomy for a while, and this whole thing is just so stupid. It only resulted because some astronomers got PO'ed at another group that "floated a proposal that would have reaffirmed Pluto's planetary status and made planets of its largest moon and two other objects."

So in other words, Pluto lost its planetary status over a bunch of bickering geeks playing politics. :P

Apparently this isn't too popular among the masses...I've never seen so many recommendations for posts on the Yahoo message boards, as on this issue. Not even in hot political debates! Check it out:

wiki has lots of info on this.

I think they shud've given Pluto a class of its own. exceptions always exist in other systems... lol

but oh well... ever since i read about Sedna i have been wondering just how they're goin to re-class the solar system, and i guess this is the best anyone could have done.

Dear Pluto,

I will miss you like no other.

Love,
AdotZdotN =[

(k, that wasn't original, I sort of stole it from my friend on xanga)

I wonder if there is a new planet (under the new definition) in our solar system somewhere beyond Pluto. Maybe even a gas giant =D
