I saw this as a featured subject in one of the most popular search engines in the web. I want to ask my fellow BJJers the same question. What would you do if you suddenly get extra money in your account due to a bank or merchant error?

For me, I voted for no. It's money and the bank will figure it out. Also, I'm most likely to report it to a bank supervisor and have everything documented. I don't wanna get into trouble no matter how big or small the amount in question is. :D

A MISTAKE is a mistake. As easily as the bank can add the money, they can easily reverse it. You'd be severely penalized if say you bought items and then the money was not there, it would make a huge negative balance that you owe.
If say the bank goes oh its not a mistake some rich crazy guy said his name was Lee soo man deposited it your bank , I would be ok :D

i feel guilty...cuz i would spend it. If money was deposited into my acct...its the bank's fault. And if i did spend the money and they find out...they can just deduct the amt from my own money. There's no real loss. But i guess the question is how much money. Cuz if it's like...$5000 or something then i would report it. But if its $50...then i would spend it :D

Well remember that the bank can demand that you give back the money you got wrongfully. So be prepared to have to repay it later on.

Like others have pointed out, if the bank finds out their mistake....X_X.

I agree with babet. If it's under $300, I'll spend it cuz that's nothing. I can pay that back and not feel sad but over $500 and I'll feel the pain.

In a real life situation I probably would ask the bank why it's there. I don't want to be spending someone else's money and then having to pay it back later.

I probably wouldn't spend it and I'd report the matter to the bank.

I voted No and Tell my parents. Or, more specifically, my dad, because he's great with finances, and I know nothing. ^_^
If I could confirm that it wasn't a mistake or wouldn't be a problem or something, I would thank God a thousand times and spend it XD
