Police Beat ‘Gentle’ Homeless, Mentally Ill Man to Death

27 July 2011 - 07:05 PM

I hardly ever make any post about the news but this just insane....

"This video, shot on July 5 by a student in Fullerton, California, ostensibly features the sounds of 37-year-old Kelly Thomas crying for his father while being Tased by police officers after he supposedly resisted arrest. Thomas was also beaten so badly that he was placed on life support. He died several days later."

Thomas—who suffered from schizophrenia, and was homeless—caught the attention of the police after someone reported that a burglar was breaking into cars parked near a Fullerton bus station. When officers approached Thomas in the depot parking lot and tried to arrest him, he resisted. What happened after that is a topic the Fullerton Police Department doesn't seem too enthusiastic to discuss—but the sound of Thomas's voice certainly speaks on their behalf. And as this gruesome photo shows, the six officers involved in the altercation beat Thomas beyond recognition; after several days on life support, Thomas was taken off the machines and died. (To be fair, two cops suffered broken bones.) Update: According to this report, a police sergeant stated on July 20 that, contrary to several news reports, no officers suffered from broken bones as a result of the Thomas incident—only "soft tissue damage."

This story really just broke my heart because this is the reality of the sad world that we live in. I know that there are MANY cases were police officers abuse authority but this particularly struck a chord with me for some reason. And I've seen videos and read stories of women and children getting tasered, arrested and beaten as well. Apparently the family and other people in the community have been demonstrating out front of the Fullerton police department but so far the police have been tight lipped about everything. NO ONE has even spoken to Kelly's parents yet. No apology, no announcement, nothing. I just watched Kelly's father do and interview in which he stated "The only thing we have left of our son is the blood in the gutter". And I know that not all cops are as corrupt and vicious but it is really the bad ones that give all the others a bad name. I know everyone has been saying this but these cops should really be put on trial for murder. There is no justification in a ruthlessly beating of a apprehended, defenseless, weeping, schizophrenic, homeless man. Because of theses 6 officers this young man went into a coma and later died. And I know some may be thinking "Well, if he was mentally ill and if his family cared about him so much then why wasn't he in a facility?" Well, apparently (not just in CA) since the 80's there was a deinstutionalization process going across the country. Many viewed mental instutions as places to just keep the mentally ill instead of treating them. And so while deinstituionalization took place there was supposed to be more emphasis on community support, treatment, job training, etc. However, because of the lack of funding there just aren't adequate resources. And mentally ill patients aren't able to stay in instituions forever so that is most likely what happened to this young man.

I only wish that those accountable be served just punishment. And if not then I at LEAST hope that their badges get taken away from them.

What are your opinions? Do you think that things should have been handled differently?

Dir en Grey concert review

14 September 2010 - 10:09 PM

Yeah so last Tuesday I went to see Dir en grey because they were here in Vegas. I went with my friend Catya (so I'll be mentioning her a lot in this post) This is actually copy and pasted from my personal blog. But here you go.

WARNING this post is RANDOM

Catya and I got there 2 hours before the show started and got in at about 5:00 PM because we got VIP tickets. There weren't a whole lot of VIP's...I'd say somewhere between 10-15 people. The translator randomly picked people beforehand to ask the members some questions which pissed me off because I really wanted to ask them a question and all the people that got chosen either said nothing or asked lame questions....

The translator also asked us questions like "What songs would you like them to play?" "What band do you think they should tour with next?" "What else do you want the members to do?" etc. I suggested that they tour with OTEP but...hey thats just my opinion.

It was funny because the members kind of looked like they didn't want to be there. I mean the look on their faces was a combination of boredom, exhaustion, confusion, and anger. Heh. And I guess if I just flew from Japan and toured across America, meeting strange fans, and playing shows I'd be tired as hell too.

We got to shake the member's hands and take pictures with them too. HAH I said "Nice to meet you" to Die and he said "Nice to meet you" too :DDD And all of them have very firm handshakes, especially Kyo who has the kind of handshake that is slightly slightly painful but I didn't mind at all. I think I stood between Kyo and Toshiya while taking the picture. Oh and after comparing my height and other people's height to Kyo's I'd say he is definitely 5'3. After the meeting the members started heading back stage and everyone got all quiet but then I shouted "BYE BYE!" and then everyone else joined in and started saying bye to them too.(I am such a leader) Yup I am this kind of person 得意げ

Catya and I secured some positions in the middle right behind the barrier/stand thingies. I sprinted upstairs and grabbed some Merch from the merch table and ran back down to my spot on the floor and about 5-10 minutes later everyone else came into the venue.

The opening act was a band called Evaline. And...they weren't very good. I think they were trying to sound like an experimental band but it was just to plain to be experimental. I guess they are one of those bands that you would just lump into the "alternative" genre of music. But I will admit that they had good energy. The lead singer kept jumping off stage and into our faces. And poor Catya kept getting harassed from him. They gave me quite a laugh.

Then Dir en grey came on stage and tore the house down. Although I don't remember the order I do remember all the songs they played:

-Sa Bir
-Red Soil
-Agitated Screams of Maggots
-Gaika Chinmoku Ga Nemuru Koro
-Shokubeni(Kyo's voice cracked SUPER HARD during the bridge. so sad...)
-Dozing Green
-The Final
-Rotting Root
-Inconvenient Ideal(encore)
-Reiktsu Nariseba
-Hageshi.....(I can't remember the whole title but its their latest single)
-Inward Scream(Kyo's solo)
-羅刹国 (WOOT this song is pretty old but it still sounded great)

The band had lots of energy and everyone sounded great. Die's long hair was flowing as he played over the fan. Kaoru looked super cool as he head banged although one of his guitars got messed up right before they played "Obscure" so he seemed slightly annoyed about that. Shinya was a beast on his SUPER AWESOME DRUMS SET. Toshiya slapped his bass like nobody's business while he ran around the stage, did his little dance, and hyped up the audience. He is definitely the hype man of the group. And Kyo eventually took off his shirt(what else is new?) and did his little belly dances, head banged, spit water into the audience, and blew us away with his low screams and death growls. heh. And he shouted out stuff like "LAS VEGAS!" and "THANK YOU LAS VEGAS" I think everyone died of happiness after he said those things.

Though there were a lot of annoying weeaboos, the audience was very energetic. But there was one girl behind me that shouted out to Kyo "You're so SEXY!" -__- I wanted to smack her in the mouth and close the big gap between her front teeth. I mean I understand if you have a crush on them. (I love Kaoru) but must you really make such shallow comments while they are performing? This only further proved the point that I made with Catya that night. I mean I truly believed that if the members didn't look as good as they did then their female fans would NOT like them as much.

It was great but towards the end of their set people kept shoving their arms in my directions so I kept having to move everyone's dirty, sweaty, arms out of my face. I got pushed and squished so much. BUT ITS ALL GOOD

Right before they played " 羅刹国 " Kyo kept shouting "LAST SONG!!!" which caused all of us to scream and crap. I think he shouted this a good 10 times before they played the song. And when I initially heard this song I was like..."What? I never heard this before" but I realized that it was just an older song but they were playing it in a different way. But IT WAS AWESOME. After they finished the song they all went off stage and everyone was like "NOOOOO T____T" So we kept chanting things like "DIR EN GREY!" "ENCORE!" "ONE MORE SONG!" and after a good 5 minutes passed I had given up hope. Generally they never come back for 1 more song even if the audience is chanting or shouting for them. They are just like "flowers that poop. I already left the stage goddammit. I'm tiiired" and the just leave. So, I thought "Oh well. They left the stage so I guess that's it"

then suddenly Shinya walked back on stage, followed by Die, Toshiya, Kyo and Kaoru. And (although this may sound dumb) my eyes watered a little HAH. I was so happy because this sort of thing never happens. They all came back on stage smiling and waving at us. They seemed generally happy to come back on and their expressions were like "Wow. This crowd is great. They really love us." I could tell how proud they felt. Even Kyo was smiling. He held up his index finger up in front of his face and gave us this look like "Okay 1 more song and that's it guys" and everyone was content with just that. The played "Inconvenient Ideal" as the encore. Now "Inconvenient Ideal" is a slower (almost mellow) type of ballad but it is a GREAT. Kyo's voice was so awesome and he sure did hit those high notes during the bridge. The chorus was perfect.(That probably shut up that girl that said that Kyo was loosing his voice.)

After they finished the last LAST song they all threw some crap out in the audience. Die threw water over the people in the front (this included Catya and I). A giant @$$ drop of water exploded on the top of my head -__- but I guess it was a miracle because my hair didn't get messed up. They all threw picks and drum sticks into the crowd. BUT I GOT NOT A THING. I was kind of sad because I was in the front and they threw nothing in my direction. OH but there was a pick on the floor (in front of the barrier) but some girl spotted it before I did and got a security guard to hand it to her.(lucky lil' bish)

I'd say that a good 90% of the Dir en grey fans left after the band finished their set. Nobody cared about Apocalyptica (so sad) but Apocalyptica's fans flooded the floor as we all left anyway so I didn't matter.

If you want I'll post pics of the free VIP stuff and some things I bought from the merch table.

Oh My Jesus

Ah Forgive me if something like this was already posted!

Have you guy's seen Beyonce's new music video for her song Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). Well, if you haven't then...you should because it's awesome sauce!

Now I don't particularly care for Beyonce or her music too much, but then my friend told me that I should watch the video so, I did and now I'm addicted -__-

The choreography is actually quite nice. And I like her little power glove xD

I just thought I'd post a picture of Junsu's fraternal twin brother Juhno. That's his mommy standing between them.
