Do you use fictional characters as role models?

21 June 2010 - 05:28 PM

This thread would probably do fine in the lounge, but I think it's the Serious Discussions people who would enjoy this most.

I have a few real life role models. Famous people in popular media like Donnie Yen, Bruce Lee, BoA etc - famous people who aren't in popular media like Tim Ferriss (of the 4 Hour Work Week), Chris Gardner (played by Will Smith in Pursuit of Happyness)...

And then there are my fictional role models. Light Yagami of Death Note, Tony Stark of Iron Man, etc.

I try to emulate what a lot of my role models do. Learn from and improve on the best, they say. What might be slightly dangerous is comparing myself to the achievements of these fictional characters, like beating myself up for not achieving in 24 years what Light Yagami had in 17 years. I feel somewhat worse for doing so, but also empowered. This might sound cheesy, but I especially like that fictional role models often have their own theme music - music I cna listen to and feel emboldened by, like they're looking over my shoulder to make sure I really am trying to replicate their success properly.

I don't think this is "strange" behaviour, but I just wonder if any other BoAjjangers do the same? And how do they emopwer you? For those who don't have fictional role models...any reason why not? Do you think what I'm doing is strange, or even dangerous?

Help me think of a crew name

19 March 2010 - 05:26 AM

Heya people :]

People keep asking me to start a hip hop crew at uni. These kids...really need leadership so I guess I will haha. That being the case though, I'll have to think of a crew name for starters. One of the people who's asked me has a mini crew of his own, the God's Servants crew but I'm not interested in taking that name because I'm agnostic.

I originally wanted my crew to be called the Backstep Boys, but I want girls in the group, so gunna have to do something else...the nearby crews we'd be competing with have names like:

The Floor Pirates
Juice
Urban Lava
Fresh Funk
BP Mafia
Project Beats

Anyone have any ideas for something cooler? :]

Poll: How was your first kiss?

16 February 2010 - 12:51 AM

Valentine's Day has just passed, and I'm kind of curious. I know there's been a thread on kisses before but it's a little old. That, and I'm a complete dork who likes statistics on everything, including kisses! =D

So please, vote in the poll! Also, if you have any stories you'd like to share, everyone on BoAjjang would LOVE to hear them...

...and if BoA really likes lurking on fan forums, I bet she'd appreciate them too :]

I guess I'll start :]

I'm 23 now  I've always been comfortable with girls, having been raised by two older sisters - no male influence. Being so familiar and comfortable with girls, the "approach anxiety" that other guys have is lost on me.

But!

Having been exposed to girls for so much time, I never learned to take things further with them. I wasn't afraid - it just never occurred to me. To all the girls who liked or might have liked me, I seemed like I didn't like them or I was just slow T_T

It took one heck of a strong girl to break me of this habit :] She invited me out, just the two of us, the night before valentine's day. She's been hinting at me to make a move for a LONG time, but like always, I never noticed.

This night, she clasped onto my arm like a little japanese schoolgirl. Nothing from me. She kept moving to places where it would be easy for me to cuddle her to bits. Nothing from me. We found our way to a dark corner where she wrapped herself around me and we stared into each other's eyes, foreheads touching. Still nothing from me. (do you guys think I'm lame yet?? xD) We went out to the dance floor, where she had to stop dancing, stay on the side and admire my dance skills. She could have easily found someone else to make out with - I've seen her do so before of course. Still nothing from me.

FINALLY, we went to the soft little corner again *suspense* Amidst everything else, she laughed and said to me "any other guy would have kissed me by now."

Finally, I snapped. I rolled her over, stared at her really close, and said:

"Hey, you remember my friend's birthday party when I said I loved you just as a sister?"

*she squeals in distress* "...yes?"

~smoochie~

"I lied."

That's my story. Let's hear yours! =D And yes, the kiss was perfect :]

Monogamy vs polygamy

15 February 2010 - 07:38 PM

First, some formalities.

monogamy
• noun the state of having only one husband, wife, or sexual partner at any one time.

polygamy
• noun the practice or custom of having more than one wife, husband or sexual partner at the same time.

In my naivete, I was not even aware of how common polygamy was in western countries, that it was mostly something we saw in Islamic countries. Of course in western countries it's not THAT common, since marriage has legal technicalities, but that doesn't stop people from having multiple boyfriends/girlfriends, or having a boyfriend/girlfriend in ADDITION to having a wife/husband.

I'm curious, what do you guys feel about people that are polygamous? I find them rather unsettling, it greatly bothers me that if they fancied my girl, they wouldn't have any reservations whatsoever about hooking up with her even if they knew we were an item and we were both monogamous. I understand that that's just their way, but that doesn't change the fact that I don't feel that comfortable with them.

And if anyone here is polygamous...what do you think about us monogamous types?
