#410463 homosexuality!!!

Personally, I have nothing against homosexual people. In fact, I have a few friends who swing that way. A lot of people are disgusted when it comes to homosexuality, IMO, because they are not very open minded. At the end of the day, homosexual people are humans like you and me. It is in my opinion that we, and the community as a whole, are in no place to pass judgment on these people. Sure, they are a minority, but they still have the absolute right to express themselves.

Now comes the governments opinion. To the NZ Government, as far as I know anyway, homosexuality was never a big issue. Recently, gay marriages have been acknowledged here and NZ legislation even provides for such marriages. Before gay marriages became 'legalised' there was something called a de facto relationship. This is where 2 people live together under one roof and share their lives with each other, very much similar to marriage. De facto relationships may apply to a couple of opposite sexes but it also allows for couples of the same sex to be in a marriage situation. I think it was because of the existance of de facto relationships that the government decided to make way for gay marriages.
