Flashback: BoA - Girls On Top (2005)

27 April 2013 - 12:39 PM

Girls On Top by BoA was the lead track of her album of the same name released in 2005. The song is about the power of women and how women are equal with men. The music video itself was shot in Korea and Japan, with the theme of BoA as a fragile naive girl trapped in glass box being taunted by men and breaking out of the box into a powerful and strong woman and trapping the confused men inside the same box she was in. The album Girls On Top sold 300,000+ copies in South Korea and was one of the top selling Korean albums of the year.

Girls On Top was a huge fan favorite among both K-pop and J-pop fans alike. It showcases BoA's blossoming into a mature and powerful woman. The choreography is famous for a feature in which BoA and her female dancers "beat up" the male dancers and subsequently ride on top of their backs, which is a literal interpretation of what it really means to be a girl at the top.

This was BoA's last and only true Urban-style song, subsequently released more pop and dance oriented songs to the present.

Flashback: BoA - Song With No Name (2004)

11 April 2013 - 07:06 PM

A sweet song about the meaning of life. This song was released on the album "LOVE & HONESTY" as track #12. LOVE & HONESTY went on to sell 650,000+ copies.

Song With No Name was one of the fan favorites when LOVE & HONESTY was released and remained a fan favorite for a long while. BoA sang this in her LOVE & HONESTY tour (2004) and THE FACE tour (2008).

The song was written by Takeshi Aida, who also wrote Konoyono Shirushi (released in the double a-side single QUINCY/Konoyono Shirushi) and the BEST OF SOUL album. It was composed by Yoko Kuzuya (DO THE MOTION, Kimi no Tonari de and Love Letter).

Flashback: ravex - Believe in Love feat. BoA (2009)

24 March 2013 - 05:33 AM

One of BoA's best and most underrated songs ever. This song is on the likes of Utada Hikaru à la EXODUS, Sanctuary and COLORS. Or Namie Amuro DR.

I would love if BoA decided to go into this sort of style...

SNSD on David Letterman and Regis and Kelly - A Big Insult to BoA'

25 January 2012 - 10:10 AM

UGH! Sorry I'm so frustrated with SM. What are your thoughts?!

I think its ridiculous SNSD got these promotions while our poor BoA had one Jingle Ball performance (I mean seriously only one? Why couldn't they get BoA on other Jingle Ball performances?!), San Francisco Gay Pride and Gay Club "RAGE" appearance (at least the LGBT community here in North America somehow supported her), that lame MTV performance (it was the Asian MTV, I think that channel got cancelled).

BoA US Album was doomed for ultra failure without any promotions.
