#Bring back Spark 2k15. :(

Also, I'm truthfully, @superlita, I'm also hoping for some great theatrics similar to her Xmas concerts because it would be something different for her in Korea. SHE SEEMED SO COMFORTABLE IN "HERE I AM". WHO'S BACK DIDN'T HAVE THAT SAME FEEL.

I'm just so excited that in a few days we'll hopefully be able to see some fan accounts. or at least i hope there will be some )))):

That interview.....made me really sad.

I wish BoA didn't feel so negatively about it, but it's 100% true. She's very much aware of the position she's in and the comparisons being made. A lot of people in this forum even have made such comments towards her in general.

I wish she got more recognition though, she's such an astounding individual and a great performer.

According to twitter, it seems like she'll be performing "Who Are You" starting this weekend 😥

I find it ludicrous that BoA shys away from variety programs because we've seen her do them before somewhat in Japan so why can she not give her Korean fans something similar? Promotions in both countries are obviously different but she needs to be seen to refresh her image.

The younger generation knows OF her but they are missing an opportunity to see her offstage. I know she's a veteran singer but that doesn't mean she has 0 appeal just because she's been in the industry so long.

I've seen her receive compliments from younger Kpop fans but they don't dig up her history for her past discography or accomplishments; they wanna see her in a natural atmosphere (or at least in some sense that just isnt completely tied to just her music), as a person. A lot of us feel close to the images we see of our idols, BoA isn't shown in that light a lot in Korea. They really only see her as a performer 90% of the time that she promotes recently. They want to know her a little bit too.

KPOP Star opened a couple doors to see her differently but she needs to keep at it in some way to stay relevant.

See... making a song that's Korean-friendly and trendy forces her to play "safe". She could make another trendy song amongst the already saturated K-POP market, but I would rather she take a risk with a song like KML and maybe, just maybe make herself stand out amongst the rest and revolutionize K-POP. Seems like the risk didn't pay off this time and I just hope that it doesn't discourage her from taking risks in the future. I'd really hate to see her play safe like she has in Japan.

That's exactly the point I wanted to make.

I'm scared of her taking this negatively and condemning herself for trying to be innovative and instead force herself to recycle an image she's outgrown/not comfortable with/or just not feeling.

I love to hear her compositions. She brings in something so personal and raw (like with "The Shadow"/Moon&Sunrise), we saw a side to her that we as fans hardly get the opportunity to even hear about. We know it must be rough for her to be alone etc.; but when her personal writing reveals those deep feelings/thoughts, doesn't it open us up to her a little more? I enjoy that a LOT.

I'm glad she isn't too hard on herself and enjoys performing regardless of public comments and I do hope she does other shows (Sketchbook/Outdoor concerts and so on) so she can showcase more of the album. 😊

Currently Clockwork is my fave, but overall the upbeat songs have a good hook and uniqueness in them and I seriously hope we get the chance to see a LOT of these songs live.

I feel like artistically BoA tries to reinvent herself and she's a natural at adapting styles. Her songs are SOLID this time around, and even if she does not rank high because she doesn't have a crazed fanbase -- she deserves a ton of praise for the work that went into this.

As for KML ...I'm torn on it because I feel like it's not a horrible song, but ehhh. I love seeing this side of her but I'm not entirely sold on it. No denying the MV takes on a sexy EDM-esque vibe but, some of the moves in the choreo I feel might be controversial for the music shows..LOL (like the C&P move)

#2276522 [Album] [03.09.2014] WHO'S BACK?

Posted by Zanarkand on 17 September 2014 - 02:19 AM

^ I don't mind so much if her physical figures aren't what they used to be so long as she can make up for it where the trend really matters -- digital sales/streaming. (But I haven't seen/heard how well this album in particular has done online/ringtones/etc...that worries me more than her 13k figures.)

This isn't the early to mid 2000's anymore; those artists in S.Korea & Japan that have large physical sale numbers are generally idols and they always include collectibles and whatnot for fans (photocards/posters with different members being the most notable) that influence crazy amounts of bulk purchasing to "get them all" or "get my fave/bias"

Only One had this gimmicky little quirk with different BoA images, but she's also not entirely "in" with the age demographic that goes insane for this selling tactic anyway. That year had strong support due to the actual quality of her music that attracted new listeners, The Shadow (while one of my faves and a very powerful song in general), was pushed aside probably because it fit too closely along with the 'idol-esque' sound and they knew while her core fan base may love "powerful" BoA, they realized how much of a wider audience Only One would reach.

The digital success of Disturbance shows that her Korean fans and audience overall appreciates that softer image/sound from her and it sells.

Sales are sales to me, if she can account for her lack of physical copies sold for an insurmountable amount of digital sales/streams -- then as an artist she's still technically relevant. She's still marketable, and worth investing in.

I don't see First Time as something childish, or cutesy; it fits the style of where a lot of Pop is today. I like the style for her (electronic/dance), but she's mentioned that she really enjoys the electric piano sound in her music recently and I enjoy hearing it quite a bit with her as her type of voice is well-suited to it. I just wonder if she will ever go into something significantly strong for her Japanese image again. Like it was said previously, OUTGROW was stellar & I miss that kind of excitement from her, but her Japanese work lately has been slightly underwhelming for me. I enjoy watching her perform in Japan since she actually tours & because of her stage presence that she adds to it; the singles aren't anything that's going to skyrocket her anywhere on the charts.

Don't get me wrong though, I really do like seeing her try new things and growing as an artist, but recently I've been more into her Korean sound because while WHO'S BACK was fun and in no way lacking (if you omit that its full of previous singles..lol) it doesn't have a lot to it that was exceptionally memorable.
I trust that she did have more say in making it but she did with IDENTITY & Hurricane Venus (same year). I've listened to HV a ton more due to the fact the songs on there are practically all A++, whereas I only have a few special standouts from IDENTITY (the rest are okay wih me or somewhat "skip-worthy"). Her musicality in S.Korea is top notch from SM in recent years and even though Only One had like 7 tracks; the undeniable quality was there.

Throughout her career, she's never had a "typical" idol discography, but her sound is distinctive when she's in different countries. I understand why this is, but simultaneously, I wonder if she could possibly even be promoted in Japan with an album similar to HV in sound or if she could revert to an OUTGROW style.

AVEX, while giving her more creative freedom also doesnt give her the array of options that SM does. Just my opinion tho.

Still looking for more from her in the future and I'm earnestly awaiting what's to come from her next album with high hopes. (:

#2276300 [Album] [03.09.2014] WHO'S BACK?

Posted by Zanarkand on 03 September 2014 - 08:59 AM

Surprisingly it seems (according to twitter) BoA (-chan?) was trending in Japan for a while yesterday (I suppose it had to do with her TV appearance) and it looks like WHO'S BACK? debuted @ #4 for Oricon Daily 9/2 & #6 for iTunesJPN.

Everything was better than expected? Lol

I don't really feel the need to go around parading sales numbers/popularity because what's always gotten me into BoA was her presence when performing and the songs she sang. That's it.

Honestly, I don't mind the new styles she's been trying to branch out into.

I really enjoy the feel of "First Time" and I do hope she continues to go towards this sort of genre and incorporate some songs with a sound similar to Possibility/M.E.P/Implode/Only One; her voice is really well suited towards it & a lot of her current fanbase seems to enjoy it a lot (imo)!

Ideally, if she could make something with an R&B vibe similar to Some (by Junggigo/Soyou); I'd LOVE if she'd collab again with Daichi Miura, or Nell (in Kor.) That's all I hope for in the future.

#2238047 [Streaming + set list] BoA - MBC "Beautiful concert"

Posted by Zanarkand on 04 September 2012 - 07:40 AM

100% Agree with BoA_rocks_in_english, no pun intended. LOL

For the Adele cover, (although, I'm no Adele fan) I did like how much raw emotion she put into the line, "Don't forget me, I beg" - That was out of this world; it was very Moon&Sunrise reminiscent because it felt like her voice was on the verge of tears. The rest was okay, imo.

Again, not a major fan of the actual song she's covering, but it definitely got a LOT stronger at the end. And her facial expressions - WOW! Compared to 4/3 years ago, her English has only been improving, and yay her low notes are coming back strong~ I'm proud!

So happy to see her do Not Over U live too. I knew she had it in her to prove she's still amazing when it comes to her forte of singing+dancing live. ((((:

^ Ugh @ Hanteo though...What is up with their counting if Gaon has practically double counted.

So proud of her for doing so well digitally/physically with this album! I have high hopes that it'll top HV.

#2236213 [Streaming and Discussion] BoA -"Only One'' Stage Weekly M

Posted by Zanarkand on 02 August 2012 - 08:27 PM

Pre recorded, half-live, or whatever...does anyone else seem to notice that her vocals have drastically improved?
The notes are much clearer and crisper sounding. It just flows right out if her lungs rather than the stifled 'nasally' high notes she was doing in the past.

Keep it up BoA, definite steps in the right direction!

;~; I really hope someone uploads this because, seriously one of the best BoA performances I've seen in a looooong time. So hard to believe that she was still recording at like 4am and she still has all that vigor and energy

Lovelovelovelove it to biiiiits~
