Thanks for your condolences, and I'm sorry to hear that your parents don't share your love of BoA. That's one thing I really admired about my mom, the fact that she didn't care about a person's age or anything--she only cared about the talent. She was a huge fan of Michael Jackson, too. I used to have a Michael Jackson T-shirt, but I ended up giving it to her because she wanted to wear it all the time. :)

Totally unrelated, but I feel like half the reason people think she's done plastic surgery is because she used to not wear tons of makeup, and how she wears so much. ALSO .... she seems kinda.... really pale in the last 2 years, she used to have a slight tan more often haha. Although I'm still convinced there's probably some plastic surgery on her eyes, but it doesn't change her abilities. :D

Not her eyes, but she has obviously had surgery on her nose and jaw, and it makes her look terrible...she used to be so pretty!

Look at pictures of her in her 20's (teenage pics don't count; people's features are still changing then), and you'll see that the bridge of her nose is more broad, and looks better with the rest of her face. And it's not Botox; she's had that godawful "V-line" surgery which is ridiculously popular in Korea (Google it!), where part of your lower jawbone is hacked off on both sides. This surgery is done so commonly, that one clinic had a huge glass column in the lobby, filled with the jawbone remains of the women whose jaws the doctors had cut up:

It makes BoA's features look too big for her face, and completely ruined her previously pretty profile. Look at the pic on this article; see how her chin looks horrible and pointy, like a witch? That's the V-line surgery, and it makes her ears look huge, because there's not enough of her natural jaw left to balance them.

She's also had surgery to have a "Cupid's bow" added to her upper lip.

Why someone as lovely as BoA would have surgery is beyond me. She did NOT need it, with her natural beauty. :(

In Topic: What makes you come back to the forum?

I come back when I think of BoA, to see if there's any news about her.

I stopped posting as often during the brat-wars, when people got flamed for suggesting that everything BoA does isn't letter-perfect. I don't worship idols, and don't appreciate when people try to force me to. If the mods had stopped the brats from flaming us long-timers, I think a lot more of us would still be here. There's enough drama in real life, without having to put up with it on a forum. :(

In Topic: Why Is BoA Flopping in Japan?

06 February 2016 - 03:57 PM

Her downfall began when she was allegedly caught by paparazzi, kissing one of her dancers who was married. That marred her image (which is all-important in Japan).

Also, the Japanese are notoriously fickle, despite a few acts that have had long-lived popularity. Combined with the reduced focus on Korean stars, this means that the younger fans are looking for the next new thing from Korea, not an artist who was famous among their older siblings.

The final nail in the coffin was when, after all these years, she gave in and had plastic surgery done. When the "Shout It Out" video came out, all people were talking about was how weird BoA looked...which is bound to happen when you have half your jaw carved off, and ruin a perfectly good nose. The Japanese may have eye surgery done, but they're just not as insane as the Koreans with plastic surgery. So the Japanese viewed that much as we Americans viewed Michael Jackson's surgery--with abject horror.

Finally, she has become (publicly, anyway) a lot colder, repressing the fun personality that made her so popular. She probably thinks it makes her seem more mature, but it just makes her inaccessible.

She's done some wonderful songs lately (like Lookbook), but what pushes fandom is image, that mysterious quality which makes people able to relate to you. Part of BoA's image has been ruined by things she can't control (the advent of groups, the fact she's Korean, etc.), the rest ruined by things she could control (the dancer scandal, repressing her personality).

At this point, I'm not sure how (or if) she could reinvent herself. :(
