I really like this music video a lot, really can't say enough good things about it. It's definitely 1000x better than any of her U.S. songs.
A few things to address though...
1) I'm not really a fan of the houndstooth suit (but however she does it, BoA still manages to look great in it). For those that don't know (even I didn't know at first I admit), the houndstooth suit is made by Chanel. And in fact, Verbal is wearing a Chanel pendant of their logo in the video as well. Could this be used as a promotion for the company too? Who knows. Chanel's flagship store is based in Tokyo (even though they are headquartered in France). Given BoA's sense of fashion, I think it's safe to say Chanel is obviously a brand she likes. So while some of us (like myself) may not exactly like the outfit, lets at least recognize the girl has a high class sense of fashion and accept it.
2) The opening rap Verbal does is a tribute to Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock (influential hip-hop duo from Harlem, New York) for their song "It Takes Two" released back in 1988. If you watch the original video to the part where you hear "Hit it!", you'll see the original rap Verbal plays off of. Granted, this is nothing new as both Taku and Verbal are known for putting little things like this into their songs as m-flo. To me, it's just cooler Verbal threw it in having production credits for Bump Bump!.
3) There seems to be some Korean in the video (like there was in Love Bug). For example, the end of Verbal's 2nd rap before the horn part (where the two of them look so cute together) doesn't sound like Japanese. Granted, we probably won't know for sure until we see the lyrics released with the CD when it comes out on October 21st, but I think it's neat to consider.
4) BoA's probably confident, happy, etc. in the video compared to her others because she is shooting it with Verbal. When they were both on Music Japan (or was it Music Station, I forget) and m-flo was performing Love Comes and Goes, she was there performing too, and during a speaking portion wanted to take a picture with one of the hosts and called Verbal over to take the picture of them. In the making of Universe video with Verbal and CK, when he walks in the room she hugs him. The two of them seem to be very good friends and have great chemistry together. I'm sure however they perform this song live it'll be great because they always seem to have fun together (which I think is more than evident in this PV).
And finally, I've read a lot of stuff about how she's doing so many dance videos lately, etc. You know what? The girl loves to dance so I don't think anyone should say "Oh, she does too many dance videos". BoA should do what she loves to do. And if she feels like singing a ballad now and then too, she can do that as well. I think it's one thing to say you don't care for a song or a video or something, but another to start trying to say what she should or shouldn't release to suit your individual tastes. We're fans because we like what she does (overall), if we don't, then we're no longer fans, right? <
I do look forward to the new ballad coming out in December for the new Tales game being released (which I'm sure has more to do with her participating in singing the opening theme to the game than it being a ballad). What I'm more curious about though is if they'll go the same route like they did with the last one re: Bonnie Pink and have BoA sing the opening in both Japanese and English. What do you guys think?
