Hi there! Since I am a language nerd, I was wondering what language(s) you are fluent in! I find it so fascinating, and one day hope to be fluent in many, many languages!!

I am a language nerd too, I want to be fluent in quiet a few languages. Sadly, I am only fluent in English at the moment. However I took French in high school for 4 years and Japanese in college for two semesters. In no way am I fluent in either o.o...

One day I hope to be, at least, communicative in...Korean, Japanese, American Sign Language (I have just taken a fascination to this this year. It just seems so amazing to me that you can communicate without real words D=...), and, maybe, French.

I'm fluent in German, English and Japanese ^^ I'm taking other languages right now as well, because languages are just wonderful~ =)

Only English for me, but Spanish would be my second best. With new languages I find that it's easier for me to read it first before I really get good at vocabulary, grammar, and speaking skills. Japanese seems like it would the easiest to me, out of the major Asian languages.

Yeah, Japanese does seem the easiest. To me, Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese) seem SO difficult because the words are so short and it seems so difficult to grasp and understand. With Japanese, even though it's different, it seems really easy to comprehend and somewhat understand. Korean seems in-between for me. Korean is beautiful, but Japanese is so beautiful and poetic, I love it <3 I hope to one day finally have time to study it!

I'd say Filipino languages like Tagalog are one of the easiest Asian languages. The writing system is based on the Latin alphabet (ABCD), the spelling is super straight forward (mahal kita - I love you, simple as that, no accents whatsoever, the way its written is the way it sounds), the vocabulary is 30% Spanish so if you know Spanish you already got 30% of the vocabulary down, its gender neutral, it has no indication of hierarchy or formality (i.e. the way I talk to my parents is the same as I talk to my friends), the grammar is pretty straight forward and repetitive, pronunciation is straight forward (i.e. MAHAL KITA (I Love You) pronounced ma-hal ki-ta, anyone can say that perfectly, it requires no accent whatsoever), etc.

On average a Westerner can speak fluent Filipino within I'd say maximum 3 years, its evident with the numerous Americans who stay in the country and pick up the local languages just like that *snap* I'd go on dare say after 3 years you would be capable of writing an essay in Filipino with no problem!

Its all because of the Spaniards and the Americans who colonized the country for a total of 400 years that made the local languages super simplified and easy to pick up for Western speakers...

well my mother language is indonesian, English is my 2nd language, Chinese is my 3rd which i think i'm almost fluent ^^;, attempting to fluent my korean since last year :P

so i'm hoping to at least learn more about the last 2 language this year~

I want to be fluent in many languages, too! I am fluent in English and Vietnamese and am currently studying Japanese. I am no where near fluent in Japanese, though! I want to be able to at least communicate efficiently in Japanese.

Wow people can speak so many, makes me feel lazy :( Right now im only fluent in English but I study French at school (now have been studying it for 6 years) and since last september i've been taking classes in Mandarin. I studies a little Japanese last year but I can only remember a few words ^^
