In Topic: How to become a radio deejay? *urgent*
01 February 2008 - 05:57 AM
there is no specific course in university or polys that just specialises the radio production.the chinese studies in ngee ann poly does teach a little about that and as do other mass comm courses in polys. yep. and since you are thinking of going to university. i guess you may want to try mass communications in ntu and choose radio productions as your specialised skill i guess. there are attachments to mediacorp radio but obviously spaces are like limited. last year 9.33fm accepted only 1 intern if i m not wrong. yep. but you dont have to be a CS student to be a deejay i guess because ultimately it's your pr skills and speaking skills that matters. as in it is prerfered but not a must to have specialisation/experience in communications and broadcasting. yep.
there are courses conducted by mediacorp every year. just need to check out for their updates. plus there are always competitions held by the radio fms to talent search for potential dee jays so you can also try that out. basically you just need to have a clear voice be confident in your speech and is spontaneous(able to think on the spot). being proficient in languages is definitely needed.

shenjin: haha. yeah. which area of yishun do you live in. the 700+ blocks there? you are from yishun town sec right? actually i need to walk about 20 minutes to yjc but it's still a while lot better than the long ride to vjc which is like at east coast. great school culture. i guess you can say that. the environment is good i guess but the school compound is pretty old actually.
oh yeah cjc. i dont remember anyone from my school going there though. haha.

stars-fantasy: haha. vjc is ok la. very enthu about the school spirit thing i guess. competitive? well i dont really know for now yet i guess. but so far it seems like i m amongst the slackest people in my class? haha. oh your friend is a national sailor? cool! haha. i dont know any vj sailors actually but yeah. vj's sailing is like wow.
yjc doesnt exactly have a very good reputation la otherwise i will be in there since it's so near my place. haha. but one of my brother's friend(who's like really hardworking and his l1r5 was 11) chose to go yjc because of the close proximity and still managed to graduate and go to uni with good grades. so it really depends on what kind a student you are i guess. but yeah. it's not known to produce like really top students even though it's been value added for years. as for innova. i went there for a seminar once and the students there seemed to be quite inquisitive? i dont know. but since it's still pretty new so it will probably have a long way to go before it can establish itself?
