I found a chart but I'm not exactly sure how to read it.
127 BOA BOA 4,293 29,999 4,322
I have the full chart so I thought it was number, name, album name, sales this week, sales last week and then total sales, but if 29,999 is the number last week why wasn't it added in the total?

It's supposed to be
Sales this week = 4,293
Sales last week = 29 (don't know what that's about

)
% Change compared to last week = 999% (that's the standard number they put for a debut)
Total sales = 4,322 (4,293 + 29)

THE REAL REASON why the numbers are so impressive is that for some reason SM or FONTANA decided to backorder the album or something wrong happened
thats why people weren't able to buy in stores, even though they wanted to, i got 2 copies at best buy and that was it
the numbers are typical for foreign artist in america because they release the album first and then decide on their singles, completely opposite of japanese music industry
after the artist release its album, they start to promote it with their lead single. if their single is HOT then their album will start to sell
I KNOW BoA CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IN AMERICA, BUT SHE NEEDS TO BE ON THE RADIO ASAP!
MAYBE THE REASON WHY SHE'S NOT GOING TO DIFFERENT PLACES TO PERFORM IS THE FACT THAT SHE HAS A TOUR IN LATE MAY/EARLY JUNE, SO SHE HAS TO START TO REHEARSE AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF! =]

Think BoA are handling the promotions ok. But SM needs to decide what they want. They can't have her promote in Japan and US at same time. Focus at one area, especially since she needs to do alot more PR in the US. They also need to focus on getting new fans not just pleasing thoose that knew her from before.

Well her promotions in Japan are under Avex not SM.
Honestly, I don't think SM would have anything to do with Japan.
That's the best part of working under two different labels.
They both want you to be here, there, and everywhere all at once.
Plus Japan is where she is making the most money right now.

I was checking her FB, and this means only 13% percent of her FB fans bought the album.
Like Jini said, the album is missing from stores, but also.. many of her fans are in Asia (facebook is international). If they did buy it (and I hope more than 13% of her fanclub purchased an album), it would probably be through YesAsia or something that does not count towards Billboard.

From what I gather Utada peaked at #18 and got there faster and is falling slower than Boa did.
If it means anything however, I don't think Utada's first week will outsell Boa's first week. Boa was doing well on both iTunes and Amazon while Utada seems to be selling mostly in just iTunes. Boa's album was also available in stores and although it was/is extremely hard to find, when we're talking about numbers as low as 4000 copies it does make a difference.
It'll be interesting to see how Utada does when the CD is released in May.

My thoughts exactly. It's just freaking stupid having her jet back and forth, back and forth. It's wearing her down, making her sick, and limiting the promotional activities she can take up in America because she has to jump on a plane every 5 minutes.
If you're going to try and break America, you go there, you stay there, you work hard and you promote yourself everywhere. I don't know what they think they're doing, and amazing as BoA is, this is too much for one person to deal with. It was one thing hopping from Japan to Korea, but it's pretty unreasonable to make her go on those awful long flights so often, and then expect her to keep up with her manic schedules @.@

Well, BoA's Best & USA album already released and she's probably finishing up promotions for it now. Then, she'll probably (hopefully) focus on the States then. I think they just wanted something to bring in some more revenue, just in case this album bombed. But 4000 copies WITHOUT ANY HUGE/MEDIUM PROMOTIONS is pretty darn good.
Strange how all of my Canadian friends think that BoA's songs don't sound mainstream. They said it sounded "Weird, but hella catchy." How is BoA's debut American album weird? I thought it was pretty mainstream myself.

That is pretty weird, considering a lot of Canadians love Lady Gaga (not to compare to BoA in anyway but just for the fact the songs are all dance tuney). But yeah it definitely does have its mainstream sound. O well as long as they love it. My Canadian friends got into BoA mostly from the MSN ad, which helped a lot in a small way, if you ask me

Not if you factor in the cost of album production, the series of unused music videos, the namebrand staff, producers, MV Directors, songwriters, and dance choreographers enlisted to bolster BoA's survival chances... Dir en grey is far less popular than BoA, has far fewer US support (no MTV, no KiisFM, no radio airplay whatsoever), has virtually zero namebrand powerhouse producers backing their debut, didn't have enough money to promote Glass Skin MV, used an album packed with, of all things, JAPANESE SONGS (WTF were they thinking???), are distributed by an indie metal label that I've barely heard of, and they debuted much higher than BoA at 114 and sold slightly above 6000 in it's first week... Was it a while back ago? I'm wondering if the huge decrease in CD-purchasing numbers might make their American attempt very different from BoA's. I mean, seriously, for a lot of the big-named artists who debuted and got successful a long time ago are experiencing CD sales numbers that are exponentially decaying...
But I definitely do think they needed to have BoA's CD available in more stores... Making it a treasure hunt probably hurt its potential... x_x;
