I actually am quite happy with the results so far
considering how little promotion has taken place.
I think SM might also be doing it slowly so it would be giving
BoA time to get comfortable with the industry here (well and the language) while
giving time for the western population to get used to her as well. If SM were just to
shove her in people's faces at once, many probably wouldn't give her a chance. Kinda like
slowly easing her in, so people have more time to get used to the idea of an "asian" artist.
At the same time, they have the time to examine what songs are generally very well
received compared to others while being able to get a better idea of how certain titles would do short term,
and long term. (E.g. EYU may be a good song short-term, but long-term it may be less well received.) I think
this is important as once BoA has caught people's attention, she needs to act fast in putting forth material
that will keep them interested which, by having an album already released, gives her that ability for both
quality and speed. She wont need to sacrifice either and be able to grasp the opportunity well. (So basically
she wont be releasing a so-so song in hopes of reaching a certain deadline or she won't wait forever in order just to release
a very good song) Or else, people will either lose interest or will come to forget about her. If she releases
material that disinterests them, they lose heart and will just move on to other artists/music.

But yeah, I'm gonna go around the stores here in Toronto in hopes of finding the album when its released in Canada.
All you other Canadian BJJ members should go run around and ask. xD The more the better since 10 people
asking one store is better then just one person asking 10 stores xD

To those frustrated with the marketing of the album, keep in mind one thing to help keep the situation in perspective: in the US, Boa is essentially on an independent label. It's admittedly bizarre and not quite accurate to call her an indie artist, but since SM has no relation with the major western entertainment companies like Universal or Time Warner, it's the closest description we have.

The #1 reason she isn't getting played on radio is because her singles (as far as I know) never had adds dates to any formats. An adds date is the announced date that the label would like radio stations in that format to start adding a song to their playlists. Though stations can play whatever they like as long as they have permission or pay royalties (stations will often test or preview songs on-air prior to the adds date), the adds date is pretty much a song's release date.

As far as radio stations are concerned, "Eat You Up" and "I Did it For Love" aren't "out." Now, why didn't these songs have adds dates? Well, it either means that SM decided not to bother trying to garner radio play at all (which I think is unlikely considering Boa was doing radio interviews), or for whatever reason they just weren't able to. That begs the question of what exactly is involved in establishing a song's add date, and that I simply don't know.

The album is going to be released in Canada on Tuesday, April 7th. AFAIK, HMV will carry it.


I'm going to check Future Shop next week to see if they'll carry it (there's this sign that lists future releases).

O man that is so so true... She technically would be an indie artist and for sure we all know that's not how she should be classified...is this a no wonder as to why Eat You Up never got a radio airplay release date?? I've been checking at FMQB site somewhat-all the time and I haven't seen BoA there since Eat You Up was released, which I expected to be added there. SM should really be doing that. I hope through the radio tour, SM will do that. At least we have our requests forms to go but I really hope SM does go for add dates for these 2 singles if not only one.

That explains why I can't hear IDIFL on KIISfm even though I called in! My little sister and I called and the request taker was like "It's going to be a few days until we can put her song on the radio." I assumed they were just racist or against new artist from another country entering in the US market but I was wrong. So now someone should contact SM to get there approval to play her songs in the radio! I really want to hear it ~.~

I think it's needless to say this but I can now confirm that YesAsia's BoA US album does NOT contribute to Billboard.

I hope this discourages others to buy from Amazon otherwise I can really understand why people would buy from there....

Sales from YesAsia don't count but sales from Amazon.com do count towards the Billboard charts. That's why BoA's team has been pushing for people to buy from Amazon.

We fans did all we could and we could only do so much. Honestly it's no surprise. The one of the only negative thingsabout this is telling people who don't understand why her sales are low.

I was hoping to buy more copies but all of my BestBuy/Target/Borders/Barnes & Nobles are sold out. The stores probably only put out 1-2 copies max for each store anyway. No wonder her album sales are low. Hopefully in the next few weeks, SM will start to promote more & stores will begin to stock up on her album.

This sucks, I still don't see why many people are siding with SM. They really don't let there artist take this long for a darn MV to premiere and let them slip like this. If they were honestly serious about this her album would be in MANY stores by now she would already be playing on the radio and her music video would of premiered. I still don't see the light in her actually succeeding since she has already swooped soo low. Shes 68 on overall top albums on Itunes which is still really damn good but shes dropped so much so thats not good. I really hope they are doing as you guys are saying they are doing because I've pretty much given up hope. Theres only so much fans can do. :/ hopefully this tour does her some good.

Well I went to Borders today and the sales associate verified on the computer that they do have one copy in the store. But it wasn't on the shelf. She checked in the back but couldn't find it. What a let-down. Well I've heard that you enjoy something more if you have to wait for it, so I guess when I finally get my BoA CD I'll enjoy it way too much But I'm still determined to buy it at the local store - it's just a matter of waiting a bit longer ... I think I can do that.

OMFG Theres a possibility the MV Might just MIGHT premiere tonight. On BoAMusicUSA they Logged in 5 hours ago. They uploaded 1 video, and when I looked in there channel there was no other new videos. I think it might be the MV but they are hiding it until they feel like releasing it. Is it actually possible?

And as with the promtions and stuff, I'm learning to be patient and doing what I can to try to sale pitch people into buying it. I'm sure SM knows what they're doing, or they hired people who knows their stuff in the States guys. Give them SOME credit; this isn't a newbie talent agency! It's SMe we're talking about!

I'm perplexed...when will they seriously start promoting and selling the album? When I go to the stores and they have not one copy of BoA's CD in stock, when I check the TV listings and she's not on there, when I turn on the radio and she's not on there either -- that's not what I call promotion!

Someone did a study to figure out how much one must sell to get into Amazon's rankings but this one is for books. Amazon is known as a place to buy books rather than CDs so CD sales figures would be much, much lower. I heard iTunes sales also count towards Billboard but the whole album must be purchased at once. I guess it doesn't take too much to break into the online music sales charts and BoA peaked at #8 on Amazon but she held that position for less than a whole day before going down again. We'll have to see how much copies BoA sold tomorrow.

Anyone in the DFW area still looking for the album in stores, I managed to find one at a Barnes & Noble in Plano, but I think I reserved the only copy because when I picked it up, I checked the shelves and there weren't any others. Last time I checked Border's website the Borders in Uptown Dallas said "likely in stock", so you guys might want to try there.

I'm really concerned about Boa's health. She has been looking exhausted, weak and sickly lately. (Check out her latest pictures.) I don't know what's going on behind the scenes but I really hope BoA can focus on just promoting in America. BoA's got her hands full trying to make it in the US. If she keeps on flying back and forth, her health will continue to suffer, not to mention her performances.

I agree, BoA will increase her chance of success if she just focuses on the US only during this crucial time of her debut. Once she gets popular here she can afford to visit Japan on occasion, but it's going to be much harder for her to make it here if she's constantly globe-hopping.

If she makes another album her label needs to plan it better next time.

Maybe she should do an album in her country and promote for a certain amount of time and then comeback to the U.S. to fully promote.

Or she should work on 1 album at a time if shes workin on an english album STAY IN USA dont be traveling back and forth.

HDD updated the final numbers for the top 50 albums and BoA's album is nowhere in sight.
The #50 album sold about 9,000 copies so BoA's album sold about 9,000 or less in the U.S. I hope she atleast charted within the top 100 ...

Billboard updates its site on Thursday's but HDD comes out with the numbers of the top 50 on Tuesday's.

However Billboard releases an article on Wednesday's that usually include the numbers of the top 10 albums plus the albums that debuted within the top 200 so we should know BoA's position tommorow.

Yeah billboard isn't as quick as HDD, which I reply on the most haha.

But ya I agree. They should let her do one album at a time. I wouldn't care if her English debut would have to delay until the middle of this year, since her Japanese activities would have (most likely) be done by then other than A-nation...
